BEECH- NUT COFFEE

SEALING IN FRESHNESS:
THE BEECH-NUT COFFEE STORY

Beech Nut Coffee was introduced in 1923 by the Beech Nut Packing Company, headquartered in Canajoharie, New York. Beech Nut originally produced vacuum-sealed cured hams, bacon, gum, and peanut butter until they wanted to expand their product line to pre-packaged food items. In 1903 the Beech-Nut Company made a revolutionary vacuum-sealed completely airtight glass jar and started to use this technology to package coffee in sealed metal tins and cans made to keep the coffee fresh for longer.

COFFEE FADES AS
BABY FOOD BOOMS

While Beech Nut coffee was popular their chewing gum product overshadowed it. In 1935 the chewing gum accounted for over 60% of Beech Nuts revenue. Post WWII Beech Nut was financially forced to cut their product line down to just producing gum, peanut butter, coffee, and baby food. They became especially successful in the baby food market and eventually phased out their coffee line to exclusively focus on  the baby and toddler industry.
