BON AMI

A 5 CENT CLEANING REVOLUTION

Bon Ami was created in 1886 by J. T. Robertson at the J. T. Robertson Soap Company. Originally sold as a bar, Bon Ami was sold for 5 cents. Bon Ami is made from 5 eco-friendly natural ingredients, including baking soda, limestone, and feldspar. Feldspar was originally a mineral left over from quartz mining and discarded until Robertson found that feldspar and soap could be combined to create a highly effective, non-scratching cleaning solution.

THE ORIGINAL
NON-SCRATCH CLEANER

Bon Ami was originally created and produced by the Bon Ami company for decades until 197, when The Faultless Starch Company bought it for around 1 million dollars. Three years later, the company renamed itself the Faultless Starch/Bon Ami Company in recognition of the cleaner’s popularity and long-standing reputation. Bon Ami was marketed as an alternative to the harsh, abrasive cleaners popular at the time. Advertisements featured the slogan “Hasn’t scratched yet,” with a chick standing on an eggshell, suggesting that if a chick can stand on an eggshell without breaking it, Bon Ami could clean safely without scratching surfaces and causing damage.
