FROM DRINKING CHOCOLATE
TO CANDY BARS

Cadbury was founded by John Cadbury in 1824 when John opened his first grocery store in Birmingham, England. Cadbury originally sold tea, coffee, and drinking chocolate. Cadbury's drinking chocolate was so popular that it led John to buy a warehouse to produce his own chocolate drinking products in 1831. In 1849, Cadbury introduced their first solid chocolate bar. Sales were moderate as it was expensive at the time and marketed as a luxury.

THE DAIRY MILK PHENOMENON

They later released the milk chocolate bar in 1897, not to be confused with the iconic Cadbury Dairy Milk launched in 1905. The Dairy Milk bar soon became Cadbury's best seller; it had a better creamy texture, used more fresh milk, and was more affordable to the middle and lower classes. In the late 20th century, Cadbury expanded into seasonal and novelty treats, most famously the Cadbury Creme Egg, introduced in 1963, which became a widely recognized Easter product known for its milk chocolate shell and sweet cream center. . These products helped Cadbury expand internationally and become one of the most recognized chocolate brands in the world.
