CONNECT 4
Connect 4 was created by toy designers Howard Wexler and Ned Strongin and first produced by the Milton Bradley Company in February 1974. Inspired by games such as tic-tac-toe, Connect 4 challenges players to use strategy and pattern recognition to be the first to form a line of four of their colored tokens. Its simple rules and competitive nature helped the game become a commercial success, appealing to both children and adults.
THE FOUR-IN-A-ROW PHENOMENON
In 1984, Milton Bradley was acquired by Hasbro, which continues to own the Connect 4 name and trademark today. The game was originally sold for $4.99 and initially experienced modest sales until the release of its first television advertisement, which depicted two siblings competing to win significantly increased its popularity. Connect 4 later expanded into international markets and became recognized worldwide under the same name. Today, it is a household classic remembered as a classic example of strategic board game design, combining logic and competitive thinking into an entertaining game.
