DAWN
FROM KITCHEN SINK, TO WILDLIFE RESCUE
In 1978, Dawn became the preferred cleanser for wildlife rescue centers after it was found to effectively remove crude oil from the feathers of birds and the fur of marine mammals while remaining gentle on their skin. This discovery led to a long-standing partnership between Dawn and wildlife rescue organizations. Over the following decades, the Dawn product line expanded to include new scents, concentrated formulas, antibacterial varieties, and specialized products such as Dawn Ultra, Dawn Platinum, and Dawn Powerwash. These new innovations improved grease cutting performance and convenience while helping Dawn maintain its position as one of America's leading dishwashing brands. Dawn continues to expand and improve the product line, just in 2025 they released P&G launched Dawn PowerSuds and even brought back discontinued classic scents. Today Dawn is the best selling dish soap brand in the United States and is immensely popular worldwide, recognized for its powerful grease-cutting performance and its enduring role in wildlife rescue efforts.
DISHWASHING REVOLUTIONIZED
Dawn dishwashing liquid was introduced in 1973 by Procter & Gamble and invented by P&G chemist Paul Andrecola. Developed with an advanced grease-cutting formula, Dawn was designed to remove stubborn grease while remaining gentle on hands, setting it apart from many competing dishwashing liquids. The product quickly earned a reputation for its effectiveness requiring less scrubbing and a small amount of soap to clean stubborn dishes. Dawn rapidly dominated the dishwashing liquid industry, surpassing Joy and Ivory dish liquid and generating $147.1 million in sales during its first year alone.
