JOY

THE DISH SOAP REVOLUTION

Joy was the first dishwashing liquid released in 1949 by Procter & Gamble. Joy was the first dishwashing liquid designed specifically to cut through grease and food residue more effectively than traditional powder soap. Joy claimed just one drop could clean an entire sink full of dishes. At the time cleaning companies only offered a powder dish soap laundry detergent combo so joy was extremely revolutionary and popular.

THE BIRTH OF READY-TO-USE DISH SOAP

Joy is known for being the first ready to use dish liquid and It was also the first dishwashing product packaged in a plastic bottle. The convenient bottle made dishwashing easier because it did not require any mixing or measuring beforehand allowing users to pour the product directly as needed. The plastic packaging innovation even influenced how other plastic cleaning products were shaped. The brand remained owned by P&G until 2019, when the rights to Joy were sold to JoySuds, LLC.
