JUJYFRUITS
A CANDY STORE CLASSIC
Jujyfruits were created in 1920 by Henry Heide through his company, the Heide Candy Company. Jujyfruits are chewy candies shaped like fruits and vegetables, originally featuring flavors such as lilac, violet, rose, spearmint, and lemon. The candy soon became a popular choice at penny candy counters and movie theater concession stands, with its portable box and long-lasting chewy texture appealing to people of all ages. Jujyfruits quickly surpassed Heide's other products, becoming the company's flagship candy and helping establish Heide as one of America's leading confectionery manufacturers.
THE SWEET LEGACY OF JUJYFRUITS
Jujyfruits were later acquired by the Hershey Foods Corporation. Under Hershey's ownership, the candy underwent several changes, including replacing the mint flavor with lime, updating the packaging, and expanding distribution into new markets. Shortly afterward, in 2002, Hershey sold the Heide candy brands including Jujyfruits, Jujubes, Wunderbeans, and Amazin' Fruit to Farley's & Sathers Candy Company, allowing the company to focus more heavily on its chocolate brands. Over the years, the original floral flavors were updated, with rose and lilac being replaced by raspberry and orange. In 2012, Farley's & Sathers merged with Ferrara Pan Candy Company to form the Ferrara Candy Company, which continues to manufacture and distribute Jujyfruits today. More than a century after their introduction, Jujyfruits remain one of America's longest-running chewy candy brands, remembered for their distinctive fruit shapes, colorful assortment, and enduring popularity at movie theaters and candy counters.
