JUMBO
A NEW LOOK FOR SOFT DRINKS
The Jumbo soda was a soda line created by Charles D. Little and Joe S. Foster in 1924 for the Good Grape Company in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Later renamed the Seminole Flavor Company, then the Double Cola Company. Jumbo soda was the first soft drink in the United States to feature a large, brightly colored label printed and applied directly onto the glass bottle, designed to stand out from other sodas.
THE BIGGER, THE BETTER
Jumbo Soda was sold for 5 cents, the same price as many competing soft drinks of the time, but it offered a noticeably larger 12-ounce bottle compared to the standard 6.5-ounce bottles commonly used by brands like Coca-Cola. With bottles nearly double the size, the company went from the Seminole Flavor to the Double Cola Company. Production hit a roadblock during WWII when sugar had to be rationed between companies. Due to Jumbo's larger bottles, the company ran through the rations twice as fast. The company's founder refused to change the bottle size, making it impossible for them to expand the line to other territories, however Jumbo soda is still being produced to this day.
