POP TARTS
REINVENTING BREAKFAST
Pop-Tarts became one of the first ready-to-eat breakfast pastries for Americans in 1964 from Kellogg’s out of Battle Creek, Michigan. The popularity of shelf-stored breakfast foods at the time inspired the Kellogg company to create a pastry that could be stored without refrigeration, but also heated up easily in a toaster. Pop-Tarts became a major success after its release. It’s affordability and kid-friendly appeal made the fruity pastries a staple in the breakfast industry. Originally releasing flavors such as strawberry, blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon, and apple currant, before expanding into frosting and a larger variety of flavors, bringing Pop-Tarts even more recognition.
FROM PANTRY SHELF TO GLOBAL ICON
Selling billions of pastries around the globe, and becoming an icon of the breakfast industry, Pop-Tarts quickly became one of Kellogg’s most successful brands. Pop-Tarts continued to evolve by coming out with new flavors and editions to their product line, while still maintaining their classic pastry formula through the years. Kellanova now manufactures Pop-Tarts today after Kellogg’s separated their North American cereal business in 2023. Pop-Tarts still remains as one of the world’s best-selling and most iconic pastries today, and a lasting symbol of innovation, convenience, and of course, breakfast.
