RITZ

THE CRACKER BORN FROM LUXURY

Ritz Crackers were launched by the National Biscuit Company, Nabisco on November 21, 1934. Sydney Stern chose the name Ritz after the César Ritz's hotels so people would associate them with elegance and luxury. Ritz was first introduced in Philadelphia and Baltimore test markets to compete with the "Hi-Ho" cracker made by Sunshine Biscuits. Ritz quickly flourished selling over 5 billion crackers in 1935 priced at 19 cents per box. Within the first 3 years of sale Ritz became the best-selling cracker in the world.

DECADES OF SUCCESS

Sydney Stern not only chose the Ritz name, he also designed the iconic blue circle and yellow lettering logo that is still used today. The design of the cracker itself was also thoroughly thought through, the scalloped edges were designed to easily cut through soft cheeses without the use of a knife. Throughout the 70s and 80s Ritz expanded their product line to include Ritz with whole wheat flour, Ritz Bits, Ritz Cheese Sandwich Crackers, Toasted Chips and much more. Today Ritz are a classic pantry staple used daily by millions worldwide.
