ROYAL

WHERE ROYAL FLAVOR BEGAN

Royal Gelatin was introduced in 1886 by the Royal Baking Powder Company in New York City. Royal used real fruit flavors unlike other companies that used artificial flavors making them one of the first commercially successful flavored gelatin producers in the United States. They originally released strawberry, raspberry, cherry, orange, and lemon flavors to compete with the leading Gelatin company Jell-O.  Royal Gelatin quickly gained popularity through extensive advertising, recipe booklets, and colorful promotional materials that encouraged families to use their products with the promise that consumers could smell the difference in brands. Its ease of preparation made it a household favorite during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

FROM GELATIN TO GENERATIONS

Throughout the twentieth century, Royal broadened its product line to include gelatin desserts, pudding mixes, pie fillings, frosting mixes, and no-bake desserts, establishing itself as one of America's leading baking and dessert brands. Royal maintained its popularity with a steady rivalry with Jell-O. Ownership of the brand changed several times during the twentieth century, In 1929, Royal became part of Standard Brands through a corporate merger and later joined the Nabisco family corporation. Later in 2001, The Jel Sert Company acquired the Royal and My-T-Fine dessert brands from Nabisco, continuing the production and expanding their distribution routes and the Royal product line. Today, Royal remains one of America's longest-standing dessert brands, with its classic dessert products continuing to be enjoyed by generations.
