TONY THE TIGER

THEY’RE GRRREAT!

Tony the Tiger was introduced in 1952 by Kellogg’s as the mascot for Frosted Flakes cereal. Created by advertising agency Leo Burnett, Tony debuted alongside several competing characters before quickly emerging as the clear favorite with consumers. Known for his bright orange stripes, red bandana, and booming confidence, Tony became one of the most recognizable advertising mascots in history. His famous slogan, “They’re Grrreat!,” helped define the Frosted Flakes brand for generations.

AN ICON OF BREAKFAST ADVERTISING

Over the decades, Tony the Tiger evolved beyond cereal packaging into a major pop culture figure appearing in television commercials, sports sponsorships, toys, games, and promotional merchandise. Multiple voice actors brought the character to life, most notably Thurl Ravenscroft, whose deep voice helped cement Tony’s bold personality. More than just a mascot, Tony became a symbol of energy, optimism, and classic American breakfast advertising.
